Over 200 native and otherdogs took part in the dog show held for the second successive year by the Dakshina Kannada District Animal Husbandry Department. MANJUNATH Native and other dogs bred across Dakshina Kannada dominated the Kudla Dog Show held at the Karavali Utsava grounds in Mangaluru on Sunday. Over 200 dogs took part in the dog show held for the second successive year by the Dakshina Kannada District Animal Husbandry Department. The dog show was held as part of the ongoing district administration’s Karavali Utsav. The show was held separately for puppies and adult dogs. During the puppies’ show, there were two categories — one for dogs aged three to six months and the other for dogs aged six months to one year. The show was held for adult dogs breed-wise, namely Labrador, Golden Retriever, German Shepherd, Rottweiler, Beagle, Siberian Husky, Rajapalayam, Maltese, Chihuahua, Dalmatian, Mudhol, Pug, Dachshund, Dobermann, Boxer, Bull Dog, Shih Tzu, Pit Bull, Pomeranian, Lhasa Apso, Cocker Spaniel, Great Dane, and other local breeds. While there were many participating in the show for the second consecutive year, there were also first-timers like businessman Girish from Kadri, who had brought his 2.5-year-old Chow Chow. Shamanth had brought his three-month-old Cane Corso all the way from Sullia. Gananath, a resident of Surathkal, had brought his four-year-old Belgian Malinois. Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry N. Arun Kumar said the total prize amount for the best-performing dogs at the show was ₹2.25 lakh.
