The Minister for Housing, Prohibition and Excise, S. Muthusamy, on Monday distributed free laptops to 1,352 students of Government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and Erode Arts and Science College under the Ulagam Ungal Kaiyil scheme.

The event was held at the Government ITI on Chennimalai Road and at the Erode Arts and Science College in Rangampalayam.

The Minister said that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had launched several welfare schemes for students, making the State a model for education and social development. He highlighted the effective implementation of the Pudhumai Penn and Tamil Pudhalvan schemes, under which students pursuing higher education receive ₹1,000 per month.

Earlier, the Minister inaugurated Kabaddi and tennis competitions for ITI students and distributed prizes to the winners.

The event was attended by Rajya Sabha MP Anthiyur P. Selvaraj, Erode East MLA V.C. Chandrakumar, Mayor S. Nagarathinam, Government ITI Principal Srinivasan, Erode Arts and Science College Principal Sankara Subramanian, and officials from various departments.
