Every January, the quiet temple town of Thiruvaiyaru, in Tamil Nadu’s Thanjavur district, comes alive with music. This annual pilgrimage centres on the Thyagaraja temple. It is here that Saint Thyagaraja attained Jeeva Samadhi. Each year, on the day of his samadhi, musicians assemble to render the Saint’s Pancharatna Kritis in a ritual known as the Thyagaraja Aradhana.
