A severe heatwave (red alert) is declared when the maximum temperature at a station exceeds 40°C and its departure from normal temperatures is more than 6.4°C. Until now, severe heatwaves in the State were reported in less than 10 mandals. On April 19, nine mandals reported severe heatwaves, while seven mandals experienced similar condition on April 21.
