Zonal officials have been asked to inspect the polling stations to verify the availability of basic facilities and report deficiencies if any so that Returning officers can carry out rectification, said Virudhunagar District Election Officer and District Collector N. O. Sukhaputra.

Addressing the zonal officers of Tiruchuli Assembly constituency at a meeting held at the Tiruchuli Taluk office on Wednesday, Mr. Sukhaputra asked them to visit the polling stations allotted to them for familiarising themselves with the routes and alternate routes to reach the polling stations.

The zonal officials should also ensure that ramps were provided at all the polling stations, a statement said.

They should also take immediate action to remove party flags, banners, and posters found in and around the polling stations.

The Zonal Officers should give proper training to polling officials, especially with regard to handling of electronic voting machines.

On the day before the polling day, they should ensure that polling officials carry all relevant forms and all materials required on polling day along with the EVMs.

Similarly, the zonal officials should verify whether the polling officials were taking with them the EVMs allotted for their respective polling stations.

The polling officials should be instructed with clarity about their duties on the day of polling. They should immediately report to the Returning Officer concerned about law and order issues, if any on the polling day, the statement said.

Returning Officer Kanagaraj was present.
