Members of the YSR Congress Party from the erstwhile Visakhapatnam district on Saturday participated in the ‘Chalo Guntur’ programme to call on former Minister Ambati Rambabu and express solidarity with him. Led by former Minister Gudivada Amarnath, senior YSRCP leaders met Mr. Rambabu’s daughter Mounica and consoled her.

Speaking to the media later, Mr. Amarnath strongly condemned the attack on Mr. Rambabu’s residence and said the incident had triggered widespread anger among the Kapu community. He alleged that the attack reflected a targeted political vendetta against leaders who questioned the government. He said the incident was a direct consequence of Mr. Rambabu raising issues related to the government’s failures and the laddu ghee controversy. He stated that those who had spread false claims of adulteration were exposed by the SIT and laboratory reports and that, instead of accepting the facts, the government had turned against political opponents.

Former MLA Karanam Dharmasri alleged that those responsible had indulged in abuse and vandalism and had even attempted to set the house on fire. However, he said Mr. Rambabu was facing jail while the attackers were roaming free. He added that Kapu leaders in the YSRCP had resolved to collectively fight what he described as repression and to stand by Mr. Rambabu. He criticised the government for using the Tirumala laddu issue for political purposes and said faith and devotees’ sentiments had been dragged into political battles.

Ms. Mounica alleged that the attempt to murder her father was carried out under political direction and in the presence of the police. She said intimidation continued even after the incident, with threats being issued to those who came forward to express solidarity.
