A migrant worker belonging to Odisha was arrested by the Railway Police for slashing a girl’s throat with a blade at the Tiruppur Railway Station on Sunday.

Police sources said Prakash Maji (22) employed in a private company in Karur injured Thulasi Pradhan (22), a worker in a textile unit in Palladam who also belonged to Odisha. He claimed they had been courting for five years and that she had moved on.

Prakash Maji reportedly forcibly tookThulasi Pradhan to the Railway Station for boarding the Dhanbad Express, hoping to abduct her to their home State, and forcibly marry her there.

When she attempted to escape, Prakash Maji attacked her.

Passers-by overpowered Prakash Maji and handed him over to the Railway Police. The police rushed Thulasi Pradhan to the Government Medical College Hospital, Tiruppur, where doctors said she was out of danger.
