The Triplicane police have arrested a 21-year-old youth for allegedly stalking a 19-year-old college student, forcing her to accept his love, and threatening to kill her if she refused.

According to the police, the accused, identified as Ameer Ahmed Shah of Mylapore, had been following the woman for the past three months while she commuted to college. Over the last week, he allegedly contacted her repeatedly over phone and WhatsApp, forcing her to enter into a relationship.

On Thursday evening, the accused approached her at a bus stop, allegedly grabbed her hand, verbally abused her and threatened to kill her if she refused him, before fleeing the spot.

Based on the complaint lodged by the victim at the Triplicane Police Station, a case was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act.

The police arrested the accused and produced him before a court. He was later remanded in judicial custody.
