A three-day workshop highlighting the transformative potential of drone technology was inaugurated at Cluster University Kurnool on Tuesday (February 24, 2026). The programme was jointly organised by the Physics Department and the Department of Biotechnology of KVR Degree College, with financial support from the Union government. Delivering the keynote address, IIITDM assistant professor Dr. Krishna Nayak said that students proficient in drone technology would enjoy vast employment opportunities and long-term career growth. Tracing its evolution, he noted that drones were first used in Austria in 1849, adopted by the U.S. military between 1917 and 1922, and introduced in India by DRDO in 1995 under the names Lakshya and Nishant. Presiding over the event, principal Dr K. Venkata Reddy said that drones were revolutionising sectors such as agriculture and disaster management. Vice-principal Rangareddy highlighted their role in defence and counter-terror operations.
