: The Tamil Nadu government has constituted a working group for the social welfare sector to prepare the Sectoral Vision Document 2030. Besides the ex officio members from various departments, two members of the State Planning Commission and experts in the welfare of women, children, senior citizens, transpersons, persons with disabilities, and Adi Dravidar and tribal communities are part of the working group. The comprehensive Vision Document is expected to examine the current sectoral status and emerging trends, and identify gaps in infrastructure, service delivery, institutional capacity, financial outlays, policy frameworks, and human resources. It is expected to propose strategies and measures to effectively address the gaps and identify long-term priorities, measurable goals, performance indicators, and implementation timelines till 2030. The document will include the recommendations of the working group members. A few weeks ago, the Chief Secretary chaired a meeting that discussed Sectoral Vision 2030. The meeting decided to prepare the Sectoral Vision 2030 document for seven major themes. One of them was social welfare, and the sector was to include the welfare of Adi Dravidars, tribes, Backward Classes and Most Backward Classes, and vulnerable groups such as persons with disabilities, minorities, and senior citizens. The Secretary of the Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Department will be the chairperson of the working group. The Secretaries of the Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare, Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare, and Welfare of Differently Abled Persons Departments will be its members. The Director of Social Welfare will be the member-secretary. Other members include the Director of Adi Dravidar Welfare, the Commissioner of Backward Classes Welfare, the Commissioner of Most Backward Classes and Denotified Communities Welfare, and the Commissioner for Welfare of the Differently Abled.
