A woman’s hand was partially severed in an attack by her uncle at Kilimanoor in the district following an altercation that broke out after she parked her scooter in front of his house on Friday.

The victim has been identified as Sindhu, 34, of Ponganadu. The accused, her uncle Manikuttan, who is also her neighbour, has gone into hiding. The police have intensified the search to nab him.

According to the police, the incident occurred when Sindhu was returning home after dropping her child at a tuition centre. Shortly after, her uncle got into an argument over her parking the two-wheeler in front of his house. He later attacked her using a machete, causing serious injuries to her hand.

Sindhu managed to escape and ran to a nearby house to save her life. Her neighbours and family members rushed her to a private hospital at Kilimanoor, from where she was referred to the Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital where she underwent an emergency surgery.

Official sources attributed the incident to a long-standing dispute between the accused and the woman. Manikuttan has allegedly harassed Sindhu on several occasions, including vandalising her vehicle and intimidating her. The attack is believed to be the result of personal enmity.
