The Vadapalani police arrested a 42-year-old woman involved in several cases for stealing gold jewellery and cash from children and women on Tuesday. A senior official of the city police said, Jyothi, a native of Thiruvannamalai district, was a known habitual offender for stealing gold jewellery and purses from children and women, using crowd as cover. On Sunday, devotees thronged Vadapalani Andavar temple for a festival. Using the crowd as cover, Jyothi had stolen gold bangles from a one-and-half-year-old girl child of advocate Rajkumar. Based on a case filed by the advocate, the Vadapalani police, from the CCTV footage, identified Jyothi, who has more than 10 cases for theft. She was arrested by a police team when she tried to escape from Koyambedu.
