A woman ganja peddler has been detained under the Tamil Nadu Preventive Detention Act after she was arrested for alleged possession of ganja.

Police said M. Saranya, 28, a history-sheeter from Pettai near here, was arrested recently by the Suthamalli police as she was in possession of ganja for selling it to her customers. She was arrested and remanded in judicial custody.

The police also detained R. Mariappan, 25, of Ittaeri, also a ganja peddler, under the Tamil Nadu Preventive Detention Act after he was arrested with ganja recently.

Following recommendation from Police Inspector, Suthamalli, Sundaramurthy and Police Inspector, Munneerpallam, Velraj, Saranya and Mariappan were detained under the Goondas Act on Wednesday.

While Saranya has been lodged in the women’s prison in Madurai, Mariappan was taken to Palayamkottai Central Prison.

In Ambasamudram area, the police arrested Rajesh, 28, of Subramaniyapuram under Ambasamudram police station limits and his associate Suresh, 36, of Alwarkurichi in Tenkasi district with 2 kg of ganja as they were taking the narcotic substance for sale.

Meanwhile, the Thisayanvilai police, during vehicle check at nearby Pettaikulam, arrested Ganapathi, 52, of Urumankulam as he was carrying 144 liquor bottles in his two-wheeler, which was also seized.

In Tirunelveli city, the Thatchanallur police arrested S. Suman, 32, of Ottapidaram in Thoothukudi district with 5 liquor bottles, ₹3,000 in cash and the QR code card.
