A 28-year-old woman was found dead at her residence in Balapur after her boyfriend allegedly refused to marry her. According to the police, the victim, a resident of Roshan Daula in Balapur, was in a relationship with 28-year-old Rakesh from Hayathnagar for about a year. Police said the victim met Rakesh at her workplace, and the two grew close over time. He allegedly promised to marry her and, on that assurance, developed a physical relationship with her. On March 17, Rakesh picked her up from her house stating that he would marry her, and the two stayed together in a room. During this period, he is also alleged to have taken her gold and money. However, when she pressed him to marry her, he refused, citing opposition from his parents. On March 27, he again declined to go ahead with the marriage and left her near her residence. On March 28, she took the extreme step when her family members went out for work. Later that night, around 9 p.m., her sister-in-law found the house locked from inside. After repeated knocks went unanswered, neighbours helped break open the door, upon which the woman was found lifeless. A suicide note recovered from the house held Rakesh responsible for her death. Her mobile phone was also seized for analysis. Following a complaint lodged by her brother, Bhayya Vijay Kumar, police registered a case and shifted the body to Osmania General Hospital for postmortem examination. The Balapur police booked Rakesh for cheating and abetment of suicide. Further investigation is underway. (Roshini suicide prevention helpline number are: 8142020033/44 and 040 66202000/2001.)
