Woman dies after being set on fire by stalker

A 28-year-old woman has succumbed to burn injuries after she was set on fire by a man. Police identified the victim as Sharmila, a resident of Nethaji Nagar in Uppalam. The victim while returning home from work on Thursday night was doused with petrol and set on fire by Joseph, 38, a resident of Indira Nagar. 

The incident occurred near the Odhiansalai Police Station around 10 p.m. She was immediately rushed to the Government General Hospital. She died while undergoing treatment on Saturday morning. The accused, who was admitted to Jipmer for burns to his hand, was taken into custody, the police said.
