A 59-year-old woman was brutally assaulted at her residence in Ambedkar Nagar under the limits of Adugodi police station on Wednesday morning, in a case stemming from a domestic dispute within the family.

The victim, identified as Maheshwari, was allegedly attacked by her younger brother Manigandan, his son Kiran, and their associates.

Police have registered a case of attempt to murder and domestic violence against the accused at Adugodi police station. A special team has been formed to trace and apprehend them.

Police investigations revealed that Maheshwari’s granddaughter was married to Kiran. The couple had been facing marital issues, following which the granddaughter left her husband’s house and began staying with Maheshwari.

Upset over the situation, Maheshwari had reportedly reprimanded Manigandan and advised him regarding the dispute. Enraged by this, Manigandan, along with Kiran and a group of his friends, allegedly barged into Maheshwari’s house on Tuesday and attempted to forcibly take the granddaughter back.

When Maheshwari resisted, the accused allegedly attacked her with a knife and an iron rod with an intention to kill her. They later fled the scene after forcibly taking the granddaughter along with them.

The injured woman was rushed to St. John’s Hospital, where doctors confirmed that she is out of danger.
