In a twist to the suspicious death case of a 80-year-old school teacher, G. Thayarammal, at Kongalapuram, the Sivakasi Town police have arrested one of her neighbours, Jamuna (64) and recovered the gold jewels that were stolen from the deceased by the accused.

The accused has been sent to judicial custody.

The police said that the deceased was living alone in her house. Jamuna, who had friendship with the woman for long, had been living with her daughter in Coimbatore and was occassionally visiting Thayarammal.

After Thayarammal was found dead inside her house on February 11, the family members were getting ready for her funeral without suspecting the cause of her death as she was not well for sometime.

However, when they found that some jewels were missing from the house, the police were alerted and a case of suspicious death was registered.

The post-mortem revealed that the woman had died due to suffocation.

The special team interrogated some local persons. However, the needle of suspicion later turned towards Jamuna with her mobile phone signals.

After interrogating her, the police recovered over five sovereigns of the stolen jewels from her.
