Water supply to a few areas in the district will be partially or fully disrupted on Monday (March 2, 2026) and Tuesday (March 3, 2026) as part of the supply arrangements being made for the Attukal Pongala, the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) has said. 

Supply to Madhupalam, Nelliyode, Thiruvazhimukku, Thampuranmukku, Menilam and Punchakkari will be partially hit on Monday and totally on Tuesday, according to the KWA. The water utility has advised consumers to take adequate precautionary measures. As part of the water supply arrangements for the Attukal Pongala which falls on Tuesday, pumping to the Judgikunnu tank under the KWA’s Vandithadam section will be reduced, the KWA said. 

Meanwhile, the KWA said that it has made extensive arrangements with respect to the water supply requirements on Pongala day. The KWA has also opened a control room for the public (mobile no: 9188127947). In the festival zone, 1,550 temporary taps have been installed. Showers at the bathing ghats and 23 fire hydrants have also been arranged. Further, the KWA will also deploy tanker lorries to ensure adequate supply. KWA’s Blue Brigade will be operational round the clock. 

Meanwhile, the Thiruvananthapuram district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a protest outside the residence of Water Resources Minister Roshy Augustine demanding urgent measures to address the water supply shortage in the city. BJP demanded urgent intervention by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Mr. Augustine to address the issue.
