The Vuyyuru Town police prevented an online fraud involving a digital arrest of a retired teacher and his wife. A fraudster, who introduced himself as Mumbai Crime Branch SP, made a video call to a retired teacher and his wife on Thursday. The impersonator told them that ₹25 lakh had been laundered using the senior citizen’s bank account and Aadhaar card. “The caller claimed that the Supreme Court had issued an arrest warrant against the retired teacher,” Vuyyuru Town Circle Inspector T. V. Rama Rao said on Friday. The CI alerted the higher officials and rushed to the victim’s house and spoke to the fraudster, who cut the call immediately on seeing the police. A case has been registered and investigation is on, said Krishna district Superintendent of Police V. Vidyasagar Naidu, who appreciated the Vuyyuru police for their swift action.
