THOOTHUKUDI

A voter’s awareness walkathon was held here on Thursday to emphasise 100% voter turnout in the upcoming Assembly elections scheduled to be held on April 23, with the participation of government officials.

Around 700 officials from Thoothukudi district including, District Collector and District Election Officer K. Elambahavath, District Superintendent of Police C. Madhan, Corporation Commissioner S. Priyanka and other senior officials from various other departments participated in the walkathon.

To create awareness among the public, the district administration has been continuously organising various voter awareness programmes across the district. 

As part of these efforts, the walkathon was organised and government officials from several departments, including revenue, school education and agriculture, gathered at the SAV School ground near Thoothukudi Smart City bus stand and took a pledge emphasising 100% voter turnout.

Mr. Elambahavath flagged off the awareness walk. To further promote the importance of voting, saplings and pamphlets were distributed to traders, roadside vendors and commuters. 

During the rally traditional folk performances such as Oyilattam, Mayilattam, Karakattam and Kattaikaalattam were showcased to engage and to create awareness among voters.

The walk which began at SAV School ground passed through Cruz Fernandez Statue junction, C.V. Government Higher Secondary School, Market junction and concluded at the Corporation office.
