VIT-AP University sign an MoU with EESL to develop innovative energy-efficient technologies | Photo Credit: Special arrangement VIT-AP University on Tuesday (March 10, 2026) announced its plan to collaborate with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Union Ministry of Power, to promote energy efficiency and sustainability through a “Smart Sustainable Campus Initiative.” The announcement was made during the ongoing Energy Conservation Week (March 10-14, 2026) at the VIT-AP campus in Amaravati. Vice-Chancellor P. Arulmozhivarman said the university wanted to work with EESL to develop innovative and cost-effective energy-efficient technologies that could benefit society. He said VIT-AP intended to transform its campus into a model of sustainability while encouraging students to actively participate in climate action initiatives. “We want to convert our student community of nearly 20,000 students into “Champions of Climate Action,” enabling them to contribute to solutions addressing climate change,” he said. Key initiatives proposed under the partnership include transforming the campus into a ‘’Smart Energy Campus’’ using smart meters, IoT-based monitoring systems and AI-driven energy management technologies. The plan also includes LED retrofits, energy-efficient electrical systems, rooftop solar installations, smart street lighting and waste-to-energy biogas plants. The collaboration also proposes establishing a “Centre for Energy Efficiency and Sustainability” to promote research in smart grids, artificial intelligence in energy systems, green buildings and carbon monitoring technologies. Students will benefit from internships, energy audit projects, research opportunities and climate champion programs aimed at building industry-ready sustainability professionals. He conveyed a message from the EESL CEO Akhilesh Kumar Dixit, highlighting the importance of collective efforts to address climate change. Convenor of Energy Conservation Week Y.V. Pavan Kumar, former ISRO scientist K. Jayaraman, Managing Director and CEO of Efftronics Systems Pvt. Ltd., Mangalagiri, Dasari Ramakrishna and several other experts were present on the occasion.
