Five days after a fire accident in an illegal black fuses manufacturing unit claimed lives of two Assamese boys near Sattur, the Virudhunagar district administration has begun a crackdown on illegal fireworks units on Wednesday.

Revenue officials, led by Virudhunagar Tahsildar S. Rajakumar raided suspected areas in Kottaipatti and Sankaralingapuram and unearthed illegal fireworks units and manufacturing of black fuses in houses.

The team raided an abandoned building at Kottaipatti and found that five persons were stealthily making fancy fireworks goods.

The officials found pellets used for aerial fireworks goods and various mixtures.

While the workers claimed that they were in the process of making incesed sticks, the officials found chemicals used for making fireworks goods.

They also found stocks of fireworks goods, worth ₹2 lakh, on the premises.

The officials lodged a complaint against V. Vijayakumar of Sankaralingapuram who had engaged five persons in the illegal fireworks unit with the Virudhunagar East police station.

Another team of officials found that black fuses were being manufactured at Kaliammankoil East Street in O. Sankaralingapuram.

The officials found that five persons, including four women, were involved in the dangerous work in their houses.
