The Villupuram district police have recovered ₹2-crore worth stolen property in the year 2025. According to a press release, as many as 489 incidents of theft were reported during the year. The police solved 339 cases while recovering stolen property and cash valued at ₹2 crore. As many as 32 murder cases were registered in 2025, of which 15 ended in convictions. The police said 55 persons were detained under the Goondas Act for their involvement in various types of offences, including robbery, peddling ganja, selling banned tobacco products, and bootlegging. About 2,224 persons were arrested in 2,195 cases for smuggling Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), illicit distillation, and the sale of arrack. A total of 250 persons were arrested on the charge of selling ganja and 344 others for selling banned tobacco products. Over 1,000 litres of illicit distilled arrack and 14,134 bottles of IMFL were seized. As many as 358 vehicles were seized by the police in prohibition-related offences. Cuddalore The Cuddalore district police recovered stolen property worth ₹3.96 crore in 2025 and registered as many as 37 murder cases. Of these, nine cases ended in conviction. Police said 121 persons were detained under the Goondas Act for their involvement in various types of offences, including robbery, peddling ganja, selling banned tobacco products and bootlegging. About 2,567 persons were arrested in cases for smuggling of IMFL, illicit distillation and the sale of arrack. A total of 359 persons were arrested on the charge of selling ganja and 403 others for selling banned tobacco products. As many as eight cases booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act resulted in conviction.
