This comes just hours after the Madras High Court reserved orders on a writ petition filed by the makers against the non-issuance of the film’s censor certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). In a statement posted on their official X handle, the film’s banner KVN Productions wrote, “It is with a heavy heart that we share this update with our valued stakeholders and audiences. The release of Jana Nayagan, eagerly awaited on January 9, has been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances beyond our control. “We deeply understand the anticipation, excitement, and emotions surrounding this film, and this decision has not been an easy one for any of us. The new release date will be announced at the earliest. Until then, we humbly request your patience and continued love. Your unwavering support is our greatest strength and means everything to the entire Jana Nayagan team,” the note read further. pic.twitter.com/dRCsoOrnDp — KVN Productions (@KvnProductions) January 7, 2026 This comes as a shock to fans of the superstar who were eagerly awaiting to catch the coveted First Day First Show of a Vijay film for one last time on Friday. The makers of the film, directed by H Vinoth, had submitted their censor cut to the CBFC on December 19 for the issuance of the censor certificate. However, one of the five members of CBFC’s examining committee had sent a complaint to the board’s chairman stating that their objections were not considered before the committee recommended issuance of U/A 16+ certificate, subject to certain excisions. Due to the same, the chairman had decided to refer the movie to a revising committee, which seems to be the reason behind the delay of the censor certificate. On Wednesday, after hearing both parties, the judge indicated that the order may be pronounced only on January 9, which meant that there would not be enough time to execute the order and release the film on the same day. Jana Nayagan, billed as an action-entertainer, is the swansong of superstar Vijay, who is set to pursue his political career after the movie. It stars Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Narain, Gautham Vasudev Menon, and Mamitha Baiju in pivotal roles. It is produced by Venkat K Narayana of KVN Productions, and co-produced by Jagadish Palanisamy and Lohith NK Published – January 07, 2026 11:19 pm IST Share this: Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window) WhatsApp Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook Click to share on Threads (Opens in new window) Threads Click to share on X (Opens in new window) X Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window) Telegram Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window) LinkedIn Click to share on Pinterest (Opens in new window) Pinterest Click to email a link to a friend (Opens in new window) Email More Click to print (Opens in new window) Print Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window) Reddit Click to share on Tumblr (Opens in new window) Tumblr Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window) Pocket Click to share on Mastodon (Opens in new window) Mastodon Click to share on Nextdoor (Opens in new window) Nextdoor Click to share on Bluesky (Opens in new window) Bluesky Like this:Like Loading...
