Construction of the Vaduthala-Perandoor bridge has begun, according to T. J. Vinod, MLA representing the Ernakulam Assembly constituency.

The much-delayed project received momentum after the government cleared the revised administrative sanction for the project estimated at ₹34.24 crore. Mr. Vinod said in a communication that tender proceedings were completed after receiving the technical sanction for the project.

The total revised estimate included ₹10 crore for land acquisition and various utility shifting expenses. As per the revised alignment, around 55 cents were acquired in Vaduthala and 34 cents in Perandoor. The project has received all legal clearances as per the coastal regulation zone norms. The pilings works had started on the Perandoor side, it said.

Mr. Vinod said that the traffic snarls towards the city would be eased with the completion of the bridge. He said that 20% provisional sanction had been received for the total ₹5 crore proposal for the land acquisition linking the approach road at Vaduthala with Chinmaya Road and to carry out the construction works.
