Vacant professor posts in teaching hospitals, medical colleges filled

Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Satya Kumar Yadav on Tuesday approved the promotions of 118 associate professors working in teaching hospitals and government medical colleges to fill vacant posts of professor.

According to a press release from the department, a total of 804 professor posts have been sanctioned in the clinical, non-clinical and super-speciality departments. Out of these, 259 posts are vacant — 122 in clinical, 100 in super-speciality and 37 in non-clinical.

Out of 122 vacancies in 17 clinical departments that had a total of 455 sanctioned professor posts, 81 had been filled through the promotions approved on Tuesday. In 8 non-clinical departments, out of 194 vacant professor posts, 37 were vacant and 35 of them were filled. In the super-speciality departments, out of 155 sanctioned professor posts, 100 were vacant. Out of them, two were filled.

Expressing concern over the number of vacancies in 13 super-speciality departments, the Minister directed officials to explore suitable ways to fill the vacancies, given the increasing demand for super-specialty services.
