Chidambaranar Port Authority has achieved a new milestone in the renewable energy cargo handling sector by handling 147 windmill blades and accessories from a single vessel, marking the highest volume handled from a single vessel at any port in the country. Notably, this surpasses the previous record of 103 windmill blades handled by V.O.C. Port in November 2025. The vessel MV. Bo Run Jiu Zhou, loaded with 147 windmill blades, each measuring 76 m in length, arrived from the Port of Qinzhou, China, on March 3, and the discharge was completed on March 8. According to a press statement issued by V.O.C. Port Authority, the port has handled 4,211 windmill blades until February 2026. This marks a growth of 75.82%, compared to 2,395 blades handled up to February 2025. In order to further affirm its position as a leading windmill blade handling port in the country, V.O.C. Port is enhancing its infrastructure by creating an additional 60,000 m² of storage space within the customs bond area and 180,000 m² outside the customs bond area. Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, Chairperson of V.O.C. Port Authority, said, “The port’s robust infrastructure, operational efficiency, and technical capability for renewable energy cargo reflect its steadfast commitment to supporting India’s transition to renewable energy and building a sustainable and environmentally responsible maritime sector under the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, envisioned by the Prime Minister of India.” He also congratulated the importer, vessel agent, the stevedore, shipping agencies, custom house agent and shore handler on this achievement.
