Use of advanced technological tools is essential to preserve Kannada language and literature, writer Jogimane Girish Rao, said in Belagavi on April 7.

“The power and potential of the Kannada language are immense, but we need technological tools to harness it. The current generation of youth should not shy away from technology. You cannot ignore emerging technology and hope to preserve culture. We need technology to preserve, protect and promote Kannada language and literature,” he said after inaugurating Kannada Sangha at the Kuvempu Sabha Bhavan in Rani Channamma University.

The novelist, who goes by the pen name Jogi,. said, “Speakers of various Indian languages are worried about the preservation of their language and culture. Some people say that saving Kannada is not in our hands. But we need to realise that it is our responsibility to use it, cultivate it and preserve it for future generation. There are threats to Kannada, and there are some valid reasons for the apprehension. But the only way we can save it is by using it. Celebrating Kannada should not be restricted to only a few days a year. It should be an everyday affair.”

Syndicate member and writer S. S. Angadi said that there should be no differences between speakers of various languages. “The beauty and vernacularity of Kannada language is rare. The association with other languages is necessary for the growth of a language,” he said.

Vice-Chancellor C. M. Thyagaraja said that language and life are two sides of the same coin and should be treated as such. “Kannada associations should do the work of instilling the spirit of Kannada in students. We should make efforts to introduce Kannada literature in other States,” he said.

D. N. Patil, registrar evaluation, Finance Officer M. A. Sapna, Kannada Sangha President Gajanana Nayak and heads of various departments, teaching and non-teaching staff, and students were present.
