Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Tuesday appealed to students to utilise the laptops distributed free of cost by the State government for educational purposes and not to watch YouTube and movies.

Addressing students in Quaid-e-Millath Government College for Women on Anna Salai in Chennai, he said that students should make use of the opportunities provided to them. He further said that he hoped the laptops provided to them would also help in developing the State.

Recalling the various measures undertaken by the State government towards higher education in the State, Mr. Udhayanidhi Stalin said that the Chief Minister has directed officials to distribute 10 lakh laptops to final-year students.

Pointing out that the erstwhile AIADMK regime distributed laptops even to school students but had discontinued the programme in 2019, the Deputy CM said when it was intended to resume again, it was decided that laptops should be given to college students to help them pursue higher studies or in their employment.

Chennai Central MP Dayanidhi Maran and senior officials were also present on the occasion.
