Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officials with the help of Immigration officials at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) caught a 52-year-old United Kingdom national for allegedly attempting to misuse travel documents to facilitate illegal international travel.

The accused has been identified as Kandiah Rajagopal, a resident of Northolt Town of West London, who was scheduled to travel to the U.K. on Sunday. Officials said Rajagopal had reached the security hold area of the international terminal, where his movements raised suspicion. The matter was brought to the notice of the CISF, which in turn alerted Immigration authorities.

Rajagopal was subsequently detained and questioned by Immigration officials at around 5.30 p.m. on the same day.

During verification, officials found discrepancies related to another Sri Lankan national, Sharusan Kunasekaran, who was scheduled to depart to Singapore on an IndiGo flight. However, records revealed that Kunasekaran neither boarded the flight nor exited through the departure area. Immigration officials suspect that Kunasekaran took the boarding pass clearance of Rajgopal, and that he may have illegally travelled using the London-bound flight.

The CISF was informed of the irregularities, following which Immigration authorities registered a complaint against Rajagopal for misuse of documents and violation of immigration norms.

Further investigation is under way to ascertain the full extent of the alleged fraud and to identify any possible human trafficking for jobs network involved. Based on the complaint filed by Mallesh A.S, immigration officer, the police have registered an FIR against Rajgopal charging him under the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025 for further investigation.

The case comes close on the heels of a similar incident in the last week of December, 2025, when two Sri Lankan nationals were arrested at KIA while attempting to board a U.K.-bound flight using passports bearing different identities.
