Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L. Murugan on Sunday inspected the venue for the Prime Minister’s public meeting scheduled to be held near Panjapur in Tiruchi on March 11.

Speaking to reporters after inspecting the arrangements at the large ground near Panjapur, Mr. Murugan said the public meeting would mark a “major turning point” in politics. He said around seven lakh cadres belonging to parties in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) were expected to participate in the event.

‘Stalin is scared’

Alleging that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister was “fearful of a major electoral defeat,” Mr. Murugan claimed that the outcome was already evident.

Commenting on actor-turned-politician and leader of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam Vijay, who recently entered politics, he said it remained to be seen what electoral impact he would have. “Crowds may gather to see a film star, but that does not necessarily translate into votes. The era when film fans voted en masse vote for a leader ended with M.G. Ramachandran,” he said.

On reports about the transfer of Tamil Nadu Governor, Mr. Murugan said such changes were routine and alleged that the DMK had repeatedly disrespected the Governor in the State. He added that the NDA was a strong alliance with more than 30 parties and claimed that it was progressing faster than the DMK-led front.
