Siva Saravanan The Union government is trying to deceive the people of Tamil Nadu by creating a false impression that it upholds the Tamil language, alleged Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Thursday (March 5, 2026). Addressing a function organised by the Karanthai Tamizh Sangam at Karanthanttankudi in the Thanjavur Corporation limits, he said that in the past decade, the Union government had allocated ₹147 crore for the promotion of the Tamil language, compared to the ₹2,500 crore allocated for Sanskrit during the same period. Pointing out that an etymological comparison of Tamil words was being carried out by the State to convey the antiquity of the language, he said several rare books in Tamil were digitised and translated into foreign languages. Efforts were being taken to publish the world’s best literary works in Tamil, he added. Earlier in the day, he unveiled the statues of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and former president and secretary of Karanthai Thamizh Sangam S. Ramanathan on the Sangam premises.
