Calling the Union government ‘anti-people’, the National Vice-President of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), Mohammad Shafi, alleged here on Tuesday that the BJP-led NDA government has failed to implement schemes to ensure housing and food security to people.

Speaking at the inauguration of the two-day 6th National Representative Council meeting of the party, Mr. Shafi alleged that the Union government is only favouring capitalists and rolling out such schemes to enable capitalists to invest.

He said that the country is facing a scarcity of pure drinking water, leading to many deaths. Poor people are not getting land to build houses. The government has been handing over national properties, such as airports, to capitalists to manage.

Mr. Shafi also alleged that the Smart India programmes of the Union government are nothing but big scams. Many people have been kept out of voter’s list due to the Special Intensive Revision. The government’s note ban did not yield any result.
