Former Union Minister P. Chidambaram alleged that the Union government was conspiring to turn the Parliament into a rubber stamp during the election period.

Speaking to reporters in Karaikudi on Saturday, he stated: “The Union government has announced that both Houses of Parliament will be convened from April 16 to 18. A letter regarding this was sent to the Congress president. In response, the Congress president replied that after remaining silent for 30 months following the passage of the 106th Constitutional Amendment Bill, you have now announced the convening of Parliament. He suggested that an all-party meeting should have first been held under the Prime Minister to discuss the convening of the session and the Bills to be introduced.”

However, disregarding this, they are convening the Parliament. Simultaneously, reports have surfaced that they intend to bring in two Bills, one to increase the number of Lok Sabha members by 50%, raising it from 543 to 816, and another regarding the Delimitation of constituencies, he said.
