Unaccounted cash of ₹49 lakh and liquor and tobacco worth ₹28.50 lakh have been seized by police and special squads in Tirunelveli district after enforcement of the model code of conduct ahead of the Assembly election to be held on April 23. According to Collector and District Election Officer R. Sukumar, unaccounted cash of ₹37,90,870 was seized by flying and static squads, and ₹1,12,000 by the Income Tax Department. Liquor worth ₹70,570 was seized by static and flying squads, while other goods, including gold, without proper documents worth ₹28.50 lakh were seized during vehicle check by the squads and police personnel deployed at check-posts.
