Former Minister and actor Umashree’s solo play Sharmishthe will be staged in Hubballi on February 14.

Presented by theatre group ‘Rangasampada’, the play will be staged at Sawai Gandharva Hall in Hubballi at 7 p.m.

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, secretary of Rangasampada V.M. Nagesh said that it would be the 33rd show of the solo play in which veteran actor Umashree would be playing fourteen characters. He said the play had been well received by the people resulting in multiple shows in various places.

Written by Belur Raghunandan, the play is directed by Chidambara Rao Jambe.

Mr. Nagesh said that in its 53rd year of establishment, Rangasampada had staged over 60 plays collaborating with eminent directors. Rangasampada’s recent productions include an adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore’s Ghare-Baire as Lokada Olahorage.

The play ‘Sharmishthe’ revolves around mythological figure of the same name found in the epic Mahabharata. The play unfolds as a journey through Sharmishthe’s inner world, where memory, time and conflict intersect. Standing in the present, she confronts Yayati’s illusion of eternal youth and Puru’s inherited burden of false old age, ultimately restoring balance and responsibility.
