The Unity Centre of Communist Revolutionaries of India (Marxist-Leninist) [UCCRI(ML)] strongly condemned the State government for demolishing the houses of more than 1,000 families residing in Navodaya Colony, Velugumatla village, Khammam. It alleged that the residents had been living on land allotted to them by the Bhoodan Board for over a decade. In a statement, party secretary Vinod said that the government mobilised a large number of bulldozers, hundreds of municipal staff and nearly 2,000 armed police personnel during the demolition drive. The party demanded that the State government immediately restore the land to the displaced families and pay compensation for their losses. It also sought criminal prosecution against those responsible for what it termed an unlawful atrocity.
