The Red Hills police have arrested two youth for smuggling painkiller tablets from Odisha for sale in Chennai. Acting on a tip-off that ganja was being sold near the government school playground in Padiyanallur within the limits of the Red Hills Police Station, a police team led by Inspector Krishnamoorthy monitored the area. During the operation, they questioned Dinesh Karthik, alias Peter Dinesh, 21, of Sholavaram, and Mani, alias ‘Edappalayam’ Mani, 21, of Edappalayam. On searching them, the police found about two kg of ganja and 2,548 narcotic tablets worth around ₹5 lakh in their possession. The banned substances were seized, the accused were taken to the police station, and a case was registered. They were remanded in judicial custody.
