Two youngsters were killed in a road accident involving a tipper lorry, a two-wheeler, and a car at Nagarukuzhi, near Venjaramoodu, on Thursday afternoon (March 19, 2026).

The dead were identified as Adhithyan, 22, of Vembayam, and Julie Ignatius, 20, of Kattakada. As per preliminary investigation, the two were on the two-wheeler that rammed the tipper lorry that was going up an incline. The motorbike and the car were travelling in the direction opposite to the lorry, the Venjaramoodu police said.

Two injured

The police said when the motorbike rammed the tipper, the driver swerved, causing the tipper to overturn and fall on the car. The occupants of the car, identified as Rashid and Yasir from Palakkad, sustained minor injuries. They were returning after buying the car.

It took nearly an hour-and-a-half to cut open the car and rescue the passengers. They have been rushed to the Government Medical College Hospital (MCH), Thiruvananthapuram, the police said.

Adhithyan, a native of Koppam, Vembayam, died on the spot. His body was taken to the Kanyakulangara community health centre where the inquest is on.

As per preliminary information, Julie was a BA Economics student at Mar Ivanios College, Nalanchira, Thiruvananthapuram. Though she was admitted to the intensive care unit of the MCH, her life but could not be saved.
