The Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation officials have seized two lorries laden with paddy bags after the transporters were unable to provide necessary documents relating to the movement of consignment.

According to sources, the vehicles were intercepted by the TNCSC officials during vehicle checking exercise conducted by them on Thursday morning on the outskirts of Thanjavur town.

Around 4 a.m. on Thursday, the officials intercepted a lorry carrying 450 bags of paddy at Pulavarnatham area near Punnainallur on the outskirts of Thanjavur. The driver, who claimed that he was heading to Valangaiman from Sivagangai district, was unable to produce the required documents to support his claim.

Subsequently, the vehicle along with the consignment was seized and taken to the Corporation’s Modern Rice Mill at Ammanpettai.

Meanwhile, within an hour of the first seizure, another lorry laden with 200 paddy bags was intercepted by the officials at Puliyanthoppu area near Punnainallur. The vehicle along with the paddy bags was seized by the TNCSC officials as the driver was not able to provide the necessary documents.

The second vehicle along with the paddy consignment was taken to the Ammanpettai mill, sources added.
