Two youths drowned in the sea at Puducherry on Monday late evening, while two others were rescued by the marine police. According to the Chittoor II Town police, a group of four youths (all in their 20s), who work as daily wagers at chicken centres in Chittoor, left for Puducherry beach on two motorbikes on Sunday, following a holiday due to Maha Shivaratri. The youths reached the beach and spent time there until Monday evening. Close to dusk, they ventured deep into the sea despite warnings from locals. Two of them — Jaswanth and Sadiq — were washed away, while the other two — Nawaz and Jayanth — were rescued by a team of marine police. After an hour-long search, the bodies of the two youths who were washed away were traced and shifted to the area hospital in Puducherry. All four youths, sympathisers of the Jana Sena Party, belonged to the Ramnagar locality in Chittoor city. The police made arrangements to bring the bodies from Puducherry after postmortem on Tuesday. The Puducherry police registered a case.
