A motorcycle rider and an elderly woman were killed after a government bus knocked them down at Manamelkudi in the district on Wednesday. The names of the victims were given as S. Murugan, 45, and M. Shenbagavalli, 81. Police sources said Murugan was riding a two-wheeler when he allegedly crossed the road. The bus knocked him down and subsequently knocked down Shenbagavalli who was standing near the road, killing both of them. The bodies were shifted to Manamelkudi Government Hospital for autopsy. The bus driver was detained by Manamelkudi police.
