Police have arrested two persons for allegedly possessing a country-made pistol in Turunelveli. On getting information that a few persons from Melapalayam were trying to sell a country-made pistol, the police conducted a vehicle check near BSNL Office on Ambasamudram Road here in the small hours of Wednesday, and seized the firearm with four bullets from two bike-riders. The riders were identified as K. Amir Suhail, 25, and his associate A. Rathnabalan, 40, both from Melapalayam. During investigation, the police found that the duo, who had smuggled the firearm from a north Indian State, had sold it to a person from Dindigul for ₹1.50 lakh. As he returned the firearm due to reported malfunctioning, the duo were searching for a new buyer. Further investigations are on.
