A DMK functionary and his supporter were allegedly stabbed by a party worker on Saturday (February 21, 2026).

Preliminary inquiries revealed that the functionary, Veera Saminathan, is the party’s Vedasandur South union secretary. He was at his farmhouse and had planned to leave for Madurai to participate in Chief Minister’s M.K. Stalin’s event on Saturday.

As he was getting ready, a youth, identified as Mani, alias Manikandan, from Eriodu, came to the farmhouse. Under the pretext of presenting a shawl to Mr. Saminathan, the youth pulled out a small knife hidden inside the shawl and stabbed him in the neck.

When Nachimuthu, a supporter of Mr. Saminathan, attempted to stop the youth, he was also stabbed in the stomach.

Both Mr. Saminathan and Mr. Nachimuthu were rushed to the Vedasandur Government Hospital and later referred to a private hospital for further treatment.

Meanwhile, the police apprehended the suspect and seized the weapon used in the crime.

DMK party sources in the district said that Mr. Saminathan has been working hard for the past two months in the region, with the aim of securing a ticket to contest the forthcoming Assembly election from the Vedasandur constituency.

The Vedasandur police have registered a case and investigations are under way.
