A 46-year-old woman is battling for her life, while a man sustained burns after a gas cylinder explosion at Manjunatha Layout within the K.R. Puram police station limits on Monday evening. The injured have been identified as Poornima , a homemaker and owner of a three-storey building, who suffered severe burns, and Venkatesh, 46, a labourer and tenant residing on the third floor of the building. According to the police, the third floor houses two rooms. Around 7 p.m., Venkatesh noticed a gas leak from the adjoining room and alerted Poornima . When she opened the door, she reportedly switched on the light as the room was dark, triggering the explosion. In an attempt to rescue Poornima , Venkatesh suffered burns. Both were rushed to a hospital for treatment. Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control, police added.
