The Kurnool police has arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in the theft of silver ornaments from the Bugga Rameswaram temple at Kalvabugga. Police are on a hunt to nab three other accused involved in the theft.

Speaking to media persons here on Monday (April 06), Superintendent of Police Vikrant Patil said the theft took place on the intervening night of March 16 and 17 and the offenders broke the locks of the temple and stole 10 kg silver ornaments. The SP said three teams have been constituted to investigate the case and based on the CCTV recordings at various toll gates, they have nabbed two of the five accused.

The two accused who were arrested are Arjun Poonam Kumbarth of Pune and Akshay Jai Singh Thakur of Chindwada in Maharashtra and the police recovered four kg silver ornaments. Mr. Vikrant Patil said the duo along with other accused Jernal, Amith and Bajrang, were involved in theft from other temples, including one in Duttaluru of Nellore district. Police recovered broken pieces of silver ornaments adorned on the deities of the temple and also others articles.

Police seized a metal cutter, screw drivers, hand gloves, mobile phones and a car from the accused. Mr. Vikrant Patil said the accused would identify the location of various temple with the help of Google Maps and after conducting reccee commit offences. Special team has been formed to nab the remaining three accused.
