Two persons have been arrested for allegedly robbing a mobile phone from a passenger on board the Shivamogga-Yesvantpur Express.

The robbery took place in the early hours of February 11 on board the train near Shivamogga in Mysuru division of South Western Railway (SWR).

According to the complaint, an unidentified person entered the Yesvantpur-bound train near Shivamogga Halt Railway Station around 12.20 a.m. He allegedly threatened the complainant before forcibly snatching the mobile phone, valued at ₹17,000, from him.

After taking the phone, the accused allegedly jumped from the moving train, according to the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Mysuru Railway Division.

Based on the complaint,  a case was registered by the Government Railway Police under Sections 309 (4) and 3 (5) of Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita (BNS). An investigation was taken up jointly by the RPF and GRP.

Following sustained efforts, on February 19, they arrested Parashuram, alias Chingari, 29, a resident of Rajiv Gandhi Extension in Shivamogga. The robbed mobile phone was recovered from his possession. 

Another accused, Mohammed Hussain, was subsequently traced and arrested on February 24. The accused were produced in court, which remanded them to judicial custody.

The RPF has urged passengers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the railways helpline 139.
