Periyakulam police have arrested two persons Karthik and Asif Raja on the charges of allegedly defrauding a DMK functionary, Nagalingam of Periyakulam, of ₹1.30 crore under the pretext of securing him a seat to contest the Assembly elections from Periyakulam constituency in Theni district. Periyakulam police registered a case following a complaint lodged by Nagalingam. The police said Nagalingam, husband of a DMK Councillor, wanted to contest the Assembly elections from Periyakulam constituency and had also approached DMK leaders.
