TVK chief Vijay. File | Photo Credit: E. Lakshmi Narayanan Supporters of actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on Tuesday (March 3, 2026) launched a coordinated campaign online, targeting numerous media outlets by creating fake IDs in their name and spreading misinformation about them as well as some senior journalists. Condemning this, the Chennai Press Club (CPC) said the TVK supporters posted derogatory and offensive content online, targeting media organisations and journalists. They created several fake social media accounts in the names of media outlets, as well as many fictitious media organisations, and indulged in spreading false and defamatory remarks targeting journalists. Using these fake IDs, they posted derogatory content targeting leaders and functionaries of various political parties in Tamil Nadu, the CPC said, terming such actions unprecedented. “This online attack carried out by TVK members against the media outlets and journalists amounts to intimidating them. It is an attempt to suppress freedom of expression,” it said and warned that legal action would be taken against those handles if the posts were not removed. It also urged Mr. Vijay to take action against those involved in such acts.
