The Salem City police registered a case against Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s (TVK) Salem central district secretary Tamilan Parthiban on Monday (March 23, 2026).

On Saturday (March 21), as part of Eid celebrations, a function was organised by the TVK at a marriage hall in Shanmuga Nagar, Annathanapatti. At the event, the district secretary distributed gift items (utensils) to the public. Videos of the event were later uploaded on social media.

Following this, Salem South Assembly constituency Assistant Returning Officer Tamilvendhan lodged a complaint with the Annathanapatti police on Sunday (March 22), stating that the TVK district secretary had allegedly distributed gift items to voters at the function while the Model Code of Conduct was in force.

Based on the complaint, the Annathanapatti police registered a case against Parthiban under Sections 173 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and 123 (1) (A) of the Representation of the People Act. Further investigation is under way.

On Sunday, the Sooramangalam police registered cases under Sections 173 and 174 of the BNS against TVK 19th Ward secretary Rajkumar, zonal secretary Sankara Narayanan, and Jiyathuveen for distributing water bottles bearing the TVK name and symbol to people who had gathered at mosques in Azad Nagar and Sooramangalam for Ramadan celebrations on Saturday.
